NYSSBA SLN News

Defend Your District!
March 1-3, 2009

There has never been a more critical time to meet your Legislators in Albany!

The state budget cuts that are being planned will impact your district in
one of two ways:

  • your taxpayers will face an enormous increase in May 2009, and/or
  • your district will be forced to make unpopular and damaging cuts to programs and services.

Neither of those options provides the critical resources needed to educate our children and respect local taxpayers.

On March 1st through the 3rd, NYSSBA will host its most important State Issues Conference in years:  so important that it will be held at the State Plaza itself to maximize interaction with your state leaders.

Participation by each and every school district is crucial to preserving adequate state resources, local authority and mandate relief.

The urgency of this issue is so significant that NYSSBA is extending complimentary registration for all participants to enable every school district to send at least one, if not several, representatives.  We must gather hundreds of local school board members and administrators to take our case to state leaders!

It i s only through this solidarity that Albany can be dissuaded from balancing the budget at the expense of our schools.

Come to defend your students and your community from the destructive impact of insufficent aid, new and costly mandates and attacks on local school board authority.
